Ualikhanov University hosted Professor Irina Sekerina at the invitation of Aigul Zhakupova, Vice-Rector for Research and Regional Cooperation, and the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature. During her visit, Professor Sekerina delivered a series of lectures and seminars for faculty, early-career researchers, and doctoral students.
Irina Sekerina is a Professor of Psychology at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York (CUNY) and a leading expert in psycholinguistics and experimental linguistics. Her research focuses on psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology, with particular emphasis on bilingualism and language processing.
During her visit, she presented contemporary approaches to examining the relationship between language and thought, the development of children’s speech, and language processing in multilingual contexts. She placed particular emphasis on the design of psycholinguistic experiments, data analysis, and the interpretation of research findings.
In addition, Professor Sekerina conducted a course on Academic Writing, covering the structure and style of scholarly publications, journal requirements, and strategies for publishing in Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed journals.
Professor Sekerina was also appointed international research advisor to G. Shakhmanova, a first-year doctoral student at the Department of Kazakh Language and Literature. Their collaboration focuses on methodological support for research and aligning the dissertation with international scientific standards.
The visit of leading international scholars significantly enhances the scientific potential of Ualikhanov University’s faculty, strengthens international academic collaboration, and contributes to the development of a modern research culture at the university.
