On October 20, Ualikhanov University hosted “Atazhurt,” a welcoming event for young ethnic Kazakhs who have come from Mongolia and China to pursue their education in their historical homeland. The event brought participants together, helping them connect with one another, settle into university life, and strengthen their ties with Kazakhstan.

For the 2026 - 2027 academic year, 30 ethnic Kazakh students from Mongolia and China have enrolled in Ualikhanov University's Preparatory Department under the state-funded education programme. The programme prepares participants for admission to universities in Kazakhstan, introduces them to the country's education system, and helps them explore their future academic and career paths.

The programme runs from October 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. During this period, participants receive instruction in Kazakh language, the history of Kazakhstan, world history, reading literacy, and mathematical literacy. Depending on their intended field of study, they also take courses in physics, chemistry, biology, geography, and English. The programme aims to equip participants with the academic preparation needed to enter Kazakhstan's higher education institutions and continue their studies.

Beyond academic preparation, Ualikhanov University places particular emphasis on helping participants adjust to their new environment. The university provides access to student accommodation, guidance on documentation and migration requirements, and practical support in navigating university life. Participants are also encouraged to engage in campus activities and build connections with local students.

The “Atazhurt” event was part of these ongoing efforts, creating an opportunity for young ethnic Kazakhs to connect with their historical homeland and become part of the university community.

State-funded university preparatory programmes in Kazakhstan provide ethnic Kazakh youth living abroad with opportunities to pursue higher education in their historical homeland. These initiatives support their transition into Kazakhstan's education system, help them make informed decisions about their future studies, and create pathways to higher education across the country.
